The Phrenologist

Quadrille # 22 – scar

The Phrenologist

The charlatan claimed to
Be able to read the bumps
And dents on my scull
He massaged, prodded
Poked, stroked
Then told me I was kind,
stubborn
A little sensitive
What would he tell me
If he could read the scars
On my heart

De has us scar(ffing) up words to fill a Quadrille over at d’Verse Poets Pub

Ooopsie

Quadrille #19 – spark
De is asking us to put some “spark” in our Quadrille over at dVerse Poets Pub today

Ooopsie

It was the spark –
That stray remark made
In the dark while we were
Parked under the stars
With other cars watching
A show on giant screens
I didn’t mean to speak
Out loud, so the whole crowd
Could hear my deepest thoughts

Weather Forecast

Quadrille #18 -Cloud

Kim, from Writing in North Norfolk, is tending bar at d’Verse Poets Pub and has challenged us to write a Quadrille using the word cloud

Weather Forecast

the weather man predicts
sunny skies and gentle breezes
a perfect day for picnics, bike rides
and butter pecan ice cream cones
all the things we did together
when we were together
now
alone
inside
the forecast is
cloudy
with a chance of tears

Missing Your Shadow

d”Verse Poets Quadrille # 17
De at whimsygizmo is asking us to write about shadows today

Missing Your Shadow
I walked around the lake
the way we used to do
and bought pellets to
feed the ducks
the way we used to do
I looked for you when I
heard the hawks over head
circling in the warm updrafts
I smiled at dogs and children
running past our favorite bench
but the joy was gone
As the sun cast long fingers
of orange across the water
I longed to see your shadow
fall across my path once more

Captured

We’re writing a Quadrille at d’Verse  Poets where Bjorn is tending bar.
44 words using the word ‘Jar’
~

if I could, I would
capture your
smile in a jar
to comfort me
on cloudy days
or stormy nights
and when I’m cold or
feeling scared I
would open the lid
ever so slightly
to hear your laugh
and I’d be brave again

Summer Journeys

It didn’t matter where
we were going
It was the ride

that created our memories
singing in the back seat
– the songs our

mother taught us –
“Hey, Hey Good Lookin”
and “I See The Moon”

it was the journey we
always remembered

The Pub is open again at d’Verse  and were writing Quadrilles about a journey.

Biding Time

Quadrille # 12 – rose

~

Hey bud
isn’t it time you a-rose
sun’s been shinin’ for hours
and you’re still curled,
rolled up tightly
I’m waitin’ for a sign
a little flutter, a waft
of bouquet
this thorny behavior
has me pleadin’
my heart bleedin’
ready for bloomin’ pink

Forgotten Promise

d’Verse Poets Quadrille 10 – breeze

it was a breeze that brought the scent
of summer roses to my room
I closed my eyes and thought of you
and nights we spent along the stream
I felt your kisses on my lips and heard you
whisper words of promised love

green season

it was the green season
the perfect time
to sow love
in the fertile soil of
a new relationship
water it with
gentle tears of joyfulness
warm it with smiles
then watch the tender shoots
of fancy become strong
enough to bind two hearts
