take me back to the earth
to the sun and the rain
let me feel with my feet
the wet grass, the soft mud
where my soul can take root
become nourished again
buds of peace start to bloom

Sometime, I think, I am just
Like that lion – all puffed up
Making noise – bluffing my way
Through the tough parts of life
Running away or staying silent
Hoping no one will notice me
Or ask for my help when it
Really counts

Need of some courage
A cheesy badge from a fake
Wizard won’t do the trick but
If you hold my hand I know I
Can brave even a wicked witch

Moving On
–
I was weeding my flower beds today. A chore that had been neglected much too long. If you need some alone time, I recommend weeding. No one ever wants to help, so you have time to just think, sort things out, make some plans.
Not far from where I was working, a cricket chirped. I smiled – it sounded like a cheery hello. Another chirp and I moved on. Maybe it was a warning to keep my distance.

Watching the Monarchs,
You and I,
Battered and faded,
determined to finish
some plan for life
the hand of nature dealt
Without ever knowing why
If the goal is accomplished
Just to fly free is enough
