dVerse Poetics: On All Things Feline!
The cats are taking over at d’Verse Poets Pub
—
Lenny – (a Lannet)
*
We buried him beneath the garden bench
where I would take my morning cup of tea
to share the highlights of my yesterday.
I often thought I heard his rumbling purr,
–
although I knew it’s just my wishful heart
imagining that he was still around,
still chasing after bugs, both real and not.
Still crawling under sheets when I make beds,
–
still hiding deep within a paper bag
then jumping out to grab me as I pass.
He followed me around just like a pup –
a nosey, noisy, sleek white, furry friend.
–
Quiet unexpectedly we found him gone
and buried him beneath the garden bench.
Oh! Thus is beautiful.💜

So sad about his loss. You have rendered a lovely tribute to him in this sweet poem — I love how you define him as “a nosey, noisy, sleek white, furry friend”. I can totally imagine him through your words. 🙂

Cats certainly steal our hearts, and take a piece with them when they depart. Great poem Candy! 🙂

Most all pets become family. When they pass on there is genuine emotional trauma. Long white haired cats leave a lot of fur around.

Cats have that aloof front, but they are as devoted as any dog. My condolences on Lenny.

This is why I cannot have cats… I cannot face such sudden parting… we have had a few burials when I was a kid.
