Day Off

“Your shoes will make you happy today”

my shoes have taken the day off
the pink pumps are sleeping in
those boots are not made for walking

and walking shoes are hiding
under my bed sticking their
tongues out at the sun

even my flip flops have flipped
over and gone back to sleep
my toes are giggling as they

wiggle in the dewy grass
and I am happy

They’re talking fortune cookies at the d’Vers Pub today

Without Benefit of Moon

we spread a blanket
on the ground
lay down to feel
the world go round

to watch the showy
stars of night
go dancing by-
squeal with delight

to toast celestial
bodies glow
with bread and cheese
and fine pinot

the clouds were heavy
in the sky
they cloaked the stars
from human eye

but we saw stars
in spite of this
we found them in
a moonless kiss

Chocolate Trouble

I didn’t mean to eat
the whole bag – just
one bar, well maybe
just another
They were intended
for witches and pirates
and ghosts who roamed
the dark streets
And now I hear them
stomping up the front
porch steps, giggling
And shushing each
other – too late to turn
off the lights and pretend
I’m not home
My doorbell chimes as
if it is at Westminster
There is no escape and
I smile guiltily as I deposit
boxes of raisins into
outstretched bags and
pumpkins
“It’s better for them” I
mutter to myself

silent man

Over at d’Verse today Mary has asked us to try writing as if we are the opposite gender.
Quite a challenge! Here’s my “Gender Bender”

you think i don’t
notice when you
cut your hair
you think I’m not
listening when you
tell me stories about
your friends
you think i don’t
care when you wear
a new dress or new shoes
i notice
i listen
i care
but my words seem
trivial, insignificant
you deserve better
i stay silent

The Girl Who Dreamed

image

there was a girl

who dreamed about

a bright yellow sun

a golden construction

paper circle in the

clear blue sky

a warm and friendly sun

whose rays reached out

to touch the cotton ball

clouds as they passed by

there was a girl who pressed

her nose against the rain

streaked glass and dreamed
