Sunday Mini Challenge in the Garden – Shallows, Deeply

~
The robins still nest under my neighbor’s deck
and Zinnias are blooming in my garden
beckoning to the Monarch butterflies
I see squirrels and chipmunks scurrying through the yard
stocking up on birdseed that has
fallen from the feeders like
manna from heaven
in this crazy world where chaos seems the norm,
nature carries on

To My Son

You take my hand
and follow me with
unsteady steps and
simple trust
that I will lead you safely through
the springtime of your life

You run ahead
I follow close to
keep you safe from
unknown threats
as you skip playfully
through the summer of your life

Side by side
we walk along
companions in a life
of shared memories
your arm around my shoulder
as we stroll through the autumn of my life

You take my hand
I follow you with
unsteady steps and
simple trust
that you will lead me safely through
the winter of my life

How to Set a Table

how to set a table ……

a plate to hold what nourishes me
a napkin to catch my mistakes
knife, fork, spoon, because I am grown up
a cup, a glass to fill to the brim
a chair beside mine – for you

Over at B&P Shadorma and Beyond, Bastet has us poeming “how to….”
while thinking about the rules of etiquette. MLMM

Fireworks

as dusk pulls open the
dark curtain of
a summer night
flashes of light rise up
from the grassy stage
signaling messages of love
in the stillness while
stars twinkle brightly
in perfect accompaniment
from my front row seat
I clap with joy, watching
this magical light show
put on by
Heaven & Earth Productions

Getting Through to Customer Service

Poetic Asides – Wednesday Poetry Prompt
“Getting (Blank)”

Getting Through to Customer Service

I punched in the 800 number
and waited
the smooth voice on the other
end assured me that my call
was important to them
I waited
fuzzy music of an unknown
genre blaring through the lines
more waiting
once again assured that
my call was important
made a cup of tea
music, music, music
started a crossword puzzle
ah,at last, a real person
asked my name,
account number,
date of birth,
….. and “how may I help you?”
my mind was numbed by
endless tunes
I mumbled something vague
I was not getting through

Quadrille # 12 – rose

~

Hey bud
isn’t it time you a-rose
sun’s been shinin’ for hours
and you’re still curled,
rolled up tightly
I’m waitin’ for a sign
a little flutter, a waft
of bouquet
this thorny behavior
has me pleadin’
my heart bleedin’
ready for bloomin’ pink
