d’Verse Poetics: Sentiments of the Southwest
Mish would like us to join her in the Southwest

~

dry winds blow tumble weeds
across hot pavement chasing
each other like children
sunsets finger paint the mountains
a watermelon pink
spring rains turn dull sandy fields
into meadows laughing in flowers
and in the night the howl of
coyotes stirs my soul

Just skip it
flip it right
into the pond
let that ring, sink, I think
get lost in the muck
stuck in the ooze
skip the roses
weak psychoses
of apologies
skip town instead
go ahead
I’m through with you
so toodle- loo, buckaroo

~

Out on a Limb

Hearts begin beating

With innocence

Untainted and pure

Helpless they long to be

Loved and nourished

Expecting nothing more

Than other hearts
To improvise
Join in, synchronized

To their sweet song

Instead

I had no pole
to dance around
no pretty ribbons
streaming freely
as a spring zephyr
lifted them skyward
there was no fete or
crowds of celebrants
in party clothes
instead I skipped around
the ancient apple tree
with blossoms raining down
