Listen To Me

B&Ps Shadorma & Beyond at MLMM asks us to write an ABC poem this week

~
Although I may look
Bewildered or possibly a little
Crazed, maybe a touch
Delusional just because I
Eschew large parties
Form unspoken words
Glare into the sun on cloudy days
Hold onto dreams with both hands
In case they try to fly
Just to feel their warmth
Kindly refrain from judging a
Life you are not living, instead still your
Modulated tone and voice don’t continue
Nattering away
Or speaking just to hear yourself
Please listen to my unformed words
Quiet though they might be they will
Reveal the truest me the
Silliest me the
Tender me the
Urgent beating of my heart and
Vagaries of my rhyme and rhythm these
Words that float upon my sea in
Xebecs made with wooden hulls
Yearning for your ear to hold them
Zealously they whisper love

restlessness

Paloma has asked us to write a Shadorma inspired by the Indigo Girls song Closer to Fine.
I loved the tin whistle in the song and wanted to make it part of my Shadorma.
~
whistle me
a song of answers
no doctors
or bar friends
can sing the notes I need to
calm my restlessness

Alone Still

I picked a blossom from the tree
and put it in my hair for thee
but you were blind and did not care
I was alone still, standing there

You did not see my tears that day
or hear me whisper, “please, just stay”
I bowed my head as if in prayer
I was alone still, standing there

Only the robin in her nest
Replied to my ardent request
She seemed to understand despair
I was alone still, standing there

The sun went down, the moon arose
the stars put on fantastic shows
but I was blind and did not care
I was alone still, standing there

I picked a blossom from the tree
I was alone still, standing there

~

Each night I lay upon my bed
and pray for peace throughout the land
a safe abode for those who fled
and for the dead

Believe the day will bring relief
from drought and famine in the world
from pestilence, disease, and grief
despair unfurled

And in my dreams through night I see
a light to banish all that’s dark
the hope shines out from you and me
we are the spark

We are the peace and hope and light
if we just try to understand
not close our eyes at neighbor’s plight
but lend a hand

tribulation

tin stars pasted to a dark sky
paper moon is an illusion
a crystal dove that can not fly
a dream filled with dire confusion
a mind trap of grim delusion
please come to me to save my soul
with murmured words of allusion
to light and free flight – make me whole

This week Paloma has introduced us to the Huitain form of poetry.
Check it out at B&Ps Shadorma & Beyond

Cat

creature of the nighttime
certain of his status
caterwauling at birds
cavorting with stuffed mice
cuddling next to me
covering nose with paws
capturing my soft heart

Paloma has introduced us to the Pleiades poetry form created by Craig Tigerman.
It is seven lines with six syllables in each line and all lines begin with the same letter – the first letter in the one word title
