In The Dark

sometimes in the dark I see you
the ghost of another lifetime
the plot of a story in rhyme
just a shadow cast in deep blue
a clouded lens, distorted view
a scepter that I cannot name
when morning comes you don’t remain
then once again I feel the loss
and long for calm of night and doss
the dark when you might come again

In My Shoes

Go ahead walk
a mile in my shoes
try the sneakers
(you might have to run)
or the zebra striped flats
stay away from the new
canvas ones – they pinch
if you choose the garden
boots wear socks to
avoid nasty blisters
penny loafers will transport
you back in time – if
you wear them too long
flip flops are always fun
I recommend the aqua pair
Go ahead take a walk
in my shoes ’cause I’ll
be dancing barefoot

Hope N’at

We sat along the crick waiting
The sky was unusually blue
the blue of joy
We packed our lunch
chipped chopped ham sandwiches
and planned to stay all day
if necessary
It was the day the iggle hatchlings
were due to fledge
After years of pollution from
still mills and factories the air
and rivers around Pittsburgh
were fresh and clean
and the iggles were nesting again
The first bird took flight and
as we looked over the hill
toward dahntahn
we were filled with hope n’at

I had  a little fun in the Garden using some of the words you hear in the Pittsburgh, PA area

Un-office(ial)

I have no office
just a comfy chair
and shelves with books
where I can close my eyes
and dream of letters dancing
across a stage, twirling in the
spotlight, doing the tango
together until at last,
exhausted, they fall in a
heap of tangled words
i pick them up and
set them free
I have no office
just a comfy chair
where I can dream

Remains

she spent her life accumulating
bits and pieces that
meant something to her
reminders of friends
family, vacations, pets
shiny trinkets, tacky knick knacks
each one held a memory
and she smiled at the sight of them
now the remains of her life
as being sold at a flea market
destined to become another’s memories

Real Toads  – Day 16 (just 1 day late)

Unreasonable

The sun has no reason
to shine in the day
and sleep through the night

the twinkling stars at night
don’t ask for a reason
to hide from the day

in the fading light of day
I need no reason
to marvel at the sky all night

Bright day and gentle night are reason enough

Master List

Master List

they are on the blacklist
not invited to this party
where gaudy zinnias
and lavish glads
show off their best bloom(er)s
sunflowers with their toothy
grins stand proudly in
the back row
black eyed susans wait
patiently in a ring
hoping to be chosen
refreshing water is poured
from a tin vessel
but the ground ivy
is flatly refused entrance
for it is not on the
list written on soggy paper
by the muddy garden master
