by George Tooker
I long to let my hair flow
free, caught by the breeze
cascading like a waterfall –
To feel the sun kiss my shoulders
while your lips kiss mine –
To dip my toes in the
consecrated water of the
constant ocean –
To kneel in reverence on
the sandy alter of its beach –
To leave this monochrome life
behind and shine like
shards of sea glass
But I am bound to my sisters
by time and tradition
I will not leave
