Wishing On A Star

Fir tree is decorated with a star
Green branches laden with glowing tinsel
Cookies are on a special plate
Now we are waiting for Santa

Green branches laden with glowing tinsel
No shiny packages yet to be found
Now we are waiting for Santa
Hoping our wishes will come true

No shiny packages yet to be found
Cookies are on a special plate
Hoping our wishes will come true
Fir tree is decorated with a star

If Wishes Were Ponies

“May I please have a pony?”
I asked when I was three
and mom and dad just smiled
at me and answered, “Well, we’ll see.”

“May I please have a pony?”
I asked when I was ten
and mom and dad just smiled
at me and said, “We’ll see.” – again

“May I please have a pony?”
I asked at seventeen
and mom and dad just smiled
at me – I knew they weren’t so keen

Now I am grown and married
with a daughter who is three
and when she asks I smile at her
“Maybe next year, yes I’ll see.”

Inky Stars

vast spent stars of darkest ink
I think
are hiding in the deep of night
they might
have given up their glow
just flow
above us here below
keeping wishes we have made
upon them till they’d fade
I think they might just flow
