Stone Secrets

image

You keep your secrets well

Circle of giant stones

Centuries of buried history

Held close, revealing little

Man has pursued you

Dug and scraped

Measured analyzed

Worshiped and cursed

Questioned and fantasized

Millenium chasing millennium

But only the sun and moon

Know for sure

Unkindness of Ravens

The Monarchy depends on us
My brethren and me
Six guardians of the Tower

Legend says we must not leave
Wings are clipped
Servants prepare banquets

All needs are met
We are adored, pampered
We are beautiful

We long for the sky
To feel the wind ruffle our feathers
We are not free

Take A Hike

image

Get up!

Get out

Pull on your thick woolen socks

Push you feet into my souls

My tongue is hanging out

Thirsting for fresh air

Lace me up

You and me trekking through

Farm fields and woodlots

Tramping on pine needle trails

Hopping across ribbons of water

Bring your camera, if you must –

It will just slow us down

Get up!

Leave that chair

That book

That pen

Let’s take a hike

Heroic Victims

She sent him off to war

Her husband, lover, friend

To topple empires and

Destroy kaisers and czars

It was the Great War

The war to end all wars

they sent him back a child

Gassed in the trenches

With only simple thoughts

left in his head

For the rest of their lives

She cared for him

Like a mother

(remembering my aunt & uncle)

There was a great challenge over at Pheonix Rising yesterday. Take one your your poems and replace words in it with synonyms (or antonyms)

Here is my attempt-

music filters through
my days in the reveille
of the waking sun
soft wind humming in my ear
the moon’s peaceful call of taps

—————-
notes rain down on
me daily through the
trumpet call of morning
gentle susurration of a breeze
a moonbeams gentle lullaby
