untethered

Day 18 -Poetic Asides PAD- life or death

untethered
there is a fragile line between
life and death
one you can cross only
once
there is no turning back
no
do-over
and when you hop that
line
you go alone
all the things that tethered you
left behind

haphazard words

I’m just gonna
plop some words
on a page and hope

that they will arrange
themselves into a poem
or a novel or at least
some sage advice

that they might dance
romance, entrance
and unsuspecting reader

that they survive,
arrive in time to patch
a broken heart,or two

produce, seduce, let
loose a laugh or even
a guffaw, a cackle
or a silly snort

I’ll set them free
no guarantee or
warranty attached

Poetic Asides PAD 29 – “haphazard”

Im(portent) Moon

I planted peas by your
lambent (nightl)light
and started tomatoes
according to your (de)signs
I mowed and sowed
and flowed with the charts
you waxed poetic in
blossoms – white as light
I danced in your fullness
until waning, not complaining
we rested at the dawn
and yet this gonzo gardening
asks no pardoning from the sun

Poetic Asides PAD 28 – “Important (blank)”

fiddle-de-diddle

the moon has taken
the whole night off
and the stars have
called in sick
the cow took off
from the ground but found
there was nothing
up there to jump over
the dish and spoon
got lost in the dark
and stumbled their
way back home
the little dog thought it
was all a big joke and
chuckled and laughed
out loud
but the fiddling cat
such a very cool cat
fiddled his way to dawn

Poetic Asides PAD 27 – “take off”

In My Shoes

Go ahead walk
a mile in my shoes
try the sneakers
(you might have to run)
or the zebra striped flats
stay away from the new
canvas ones – they pinch
if you choose the garden
boots wear socks to
avoid nasty blisters
penny loafers will transport
you back in time – if
you wear them too long
flip flops are always fun
I recommend the aqua pair
Go ahead take a walk
in my shoes ’cause I’ll
be dancing barefoot

Poetic Asides PAD 23 – footwear

Un-office(ial)

I have no office
just a comfy chair
and shelves with books
where I can close my eyes
and dream of letters dancing
across a stage, twirling in the
spotlight, doing the tango
together until at last,
exhausted, they fall in a
heap of tangled words
i pick them up and
set them free
I have no office
just a comfy chair
where I can dream

Poetic Asides PAD 18 – write an office poem”

Master List

Master List

they are on the blacklist
not invited to this party
where gaudy zinnias
and lavish glads
show off their best bloom(er)s
sunflowers with their toothy
grins stand proudly in
the back row
black eyed susans wait
patiently in a ring
hoping to be chosen
refreshing water is poured
from a tin vessel
but the ground ivy
is flatly refused entrance
for it is not on the
list written on soggy paper
by the muddy garden master

—-
Can you tell I’ve been planting and weeding in the garden all day?
