Chaos

Chaos

A glass of wine – or two
and some smooth jazz sent me
spinning into a world of Giant
Amoeba and exploding neurons
A colorful world with ever changing landscapes,
exotic, erotic flowers, menacing rocks and boulders
I ran as fast as I could, but my feet
became planted beside a river of
flowing, neon flower petals where glowing, shapeless creatures
came to pick the fruit from my branches
until I was naked and shivering
It was then that your gentle touch lifted me
out of the chaos and back to the warmth of your heart

Day One

Secrets

Secrets

They think that I have been left behind
to do this menial task, as if being
punished for being a women.
They think their comings and goings
make them more important than
a woman who stays at home
But they don’t know the power I posses,
and wonder why, at the end of the day,
their feet are sore and blistered

Skywriting

Day 29 – Poetic Asides PAD – meter

NaPoWriMo Day Twenty-nine – word from a favorite poem
I used the word meteor from a poem, Landscape With Desire by Julia Kasdorf
~
Skywriting

The moon was (sky)writing love
Poems in the night with a
Glittery pen
Meteors streaking across
The sky trailing
Messages of hope and peace

Disguise

NaPoWriMo Day twenty-nine – take a word from a favorite poem

~
I have always like the Poetry of James Kavanaugh and the title poem from his book There Are Men Too Gentle To Live Among Wolves, is one of my favorites. I chose wolf as my word.

~

Disguise

You howl but I
Do not reply
Only my heartbeat
Breaks the silence
Of a starless night
Instinct keeps me
Safe from you –
On the prowl
Wearing your best
Sheepskin

Museums

NaPoWriMo Day Twenty-seven – taste

Museums

The rules were clearly posted
No running
No eating
No touching
No, no, no ,no ……..
So we carefully, softly walked
From gallery to gallery pointing
From a distance – trying to
Read the details beside each work –
Squinting
Whispering our opinions
A Cassatt, a Pollock, an O’Keefe
Landscapes, Outsider art, abstract
Stalked by the docent in polyester pants
That swished when she walked
Next time we’re going to the chocolate
Museum where there are samples for tasting

The Last Poem In The World

NaPoWriMo Day Twenty-six – artifacts of the future

~
The Last Poem In The World

They found it – the explorers-
Tucked away in a strange box
That seemed to be made of real wood
A soft, fragrant wood that their
Archeologist claimed was cedar
Some species of an ancient plant
It was buried under rubble
Of what must have been a dwelling
A tightly folded piece of tattered
Paper – an faded artifact
Smudges of hand-written words
A plea for peace in a backward world

Eavesdropper

NaPoWriMo Day Twenty five – small places

Eavesdropper

We had a breakfast nook
Two green wooden benches
With just enough room under the
Table for a small girl to slide
Underneath and hide
A dark, secret cave
A place to listen to the grown-ups
Gossip about family and neighbors –
Or so I thought
All they ever talked about was the weather
The price of milk and bread
And some painting I’d never seen –
A little picture with big ears

A Bold Poem

NaPoWriMo Day twenty four – ekphrastic poem based on Medieval marginalia

A Bold Poem

This poem will not be marginalized

Pushed aside by lions with violins

Cats playing bagpipes or rabbits with knives

It will not become some colored squiggle

Along the edges of a page

This poem is BOLD and brave

Its words SHOUT and wave for attention

For a proper introduction, adulation

Each sentence marches across the page

Following the one before, confidently,

From corner to corner, leaving no room for

Naves and scoundrels
