Daddy and Vincent

Real toads are meeting up with someone ‘famous’

Daddy and Vincent

Daddy was a frustrated artist
our house became his canvas
geometric designs in red and green
yellow and orange covered
the kitchen floor
always painting,drawing, doodling
one night, while cleaning
his brushes, adding more swirling streaks
of color to the basement wall,
there was a knock at the door
and there, outside, in the starry night,
was a man with one ear

Ode To A Brave Warrior

It’s Odes, Poems of Praise,  at d’Verse Poets Pub where Frank is tending bar

Ode To A Brave Warrior

there once was a brave warrior
who went boldly into battle
she faced her enemy with
noble determination
accepting each victory with
humble grace and gratitude
she was a kind and loving hero
with a hopeful heart
there once was a brave warrior
who fought with all her being
until the enemy surrounded her
and she moved on to join the
warriors who went before

the moon doesn’t mind if the stars shine too
it happily shares the sky
with comet tails and
milky way
with asteroids and
space junk
with psychedelic northern lights
together they create
a midnight masterpiece
waiting for discovery –
if we look up

On Being You

On Being You

you will not always be who/what you are right now
your twenty year old self is not your thirty year old self
and your thirty year old self is not your forty year old self
and it goes on …….

you do not have to stay what you are at this moment
whatever that might be to you
don’t get stuck
don’t label yourself
don’t limit yourself

grow
explore
fail

laugh

give up the things that don’t work for you
be willing to change directions
be willing to change opinions
be willing to accept the unexpected

include gratefulness in your life
for everyday, insignificant things
for others
for who you are

always be kind
there will never be enough kindness in the world
be truthful to yourself
be strong in your values – know what they are

love and you will be loved – yourself included
respect and you will be respected – especially yourself

reject the negative
it will only give you heartache

embrace the belief that there is good in this world
and be a part of it

seek joy

find peace

so simple
soft white paper
wound up in a
perfect roll
taken for granted
until only your cardboard
core is left,

dangling

Helloooo

it is a conundrum

of astronomical proportions –

when I put my eye to the eyepiece

peer into the heavens

searching for blackholes

poked into the fabric that

covers our planet

is there someone looking back?

Stray Poem

Here is my #2

~

Stray Poem

this poem has been kicked
to the curb
locked out of
the house
shut down
dumped

its been rained on
stepped on
flung into a tree
covered with snow

abandoned like
a stray

until my heart
opened a window
and beckoned it
to return

Pricking of My Thumbs

d’Verse Poets Pub – Quadrille #44
De is getting a “kick” out of writing a Quadrille today

Pricking of My Thumbs

it was a sharp kick(le)
in my pumped up ventricle
to discover you were fickle
it left me feeling sick(el)
and now I’m in a pickle
I’m left without a nickel
my thumbs begin to prickle
mixing up some chicle
turn you into pumpernickel

How silly!

As A Child ….

2017 November PAD Chapbook Challenge: Day 6
Write “praise” poem

~
As A Child …..

I was not raised with lavish praise
Obeying rules – not an event
and being rude was not a phase
I was not raised with lavish praise
but curiosity always
received the highest compliment
I was not raised with lavish praise
Obeying rules – not an event

~~ here is my attempt at a triolet 😉
