Today at Carpe Diem Haiku Kai we’ve learned about Hanami – the blossom viewing ceremonies
viewing festival
standing amid pink blossoms
woman’s beauty fades
——
you made me cry when
I didn’t finish my lunch
I was shy and only eight
I was afraid to speak up
even though I knew the answer
I yearned for recess and smiled
only at the end of the day
did you know?
why are you the teacher
I remember?
——
written for Poets United Midweek Motif – teacher
you are a kaleidoscope
of colors sometimes
yellow, red, green, and blue
not an aura but a feeling
a smell, a touch – bright,
burning hues exploding
from your eyes, dancing
in your feet, a tingling
on your fingertips
and i am your canvas
—–
young boys reaching up
baseball sailing overhead
victory a dream

at the ball in his hand

the batter stares at his bat

I wake from troubled dreams
shuffle wearily to the kitchen
my hair sticks up in some
outer-space hairdo, my favorite
pjs have holes at the elbows
I grunt a morning greeting
and you are there – smiling
with coffee ready and news
of the latest visitors to the
backyard bird feeder

windy autumn storm
shakes the trees, branches wave
yellow leaves rain down
