Second Grade Trauma

you made me cry when
I didn’t finish my lunch
I was shy and only eight
I was afraid to speak up
even though I knew the answer
I yearned for recess and smiled
only at the end of the day
did you know?
why are you the teacher
I remember?

  1. We remember the highs and lows of childhood. I remember at the same age when my teacher told me I was “stupid” because I didn’t understand math tho I was reading at 10th grade level. Amazing that any of us grow up to be productive individuals.
