A Woman of a Certain Age

D’Verse Poets Pub -Quadrille #48 – bounce

~

A Woman of a Certain Age

There is no bounce
No flounce
Left in her step
No chance of dancing
Late into the night
The dazzle in her razzle
Is becoming tarnished
But the twinkle in her eyes
Still outshines the stars
And the bubbles in her
Laugh infect us all

Fussy Little Forms: Chained Rhyme

We’re linking some rhymes in the Garden

Sunday Football Fans

Ardent fan with painted face
Trace of human coloring gone
Drawn instead in greens and blues
Hues unnatural and strange
Exchange taunts with those who cheer
Sincere(ly) for the other team
Scream as if his life will end
Offend some other sitting near
Atmosphere becomes more tense
Defense makes a crucial play
They forget the slight and hug
Chug a celebration beer
Spear the air with upraised hands
Stand together shout and sing
Cling to hopes of victory

Rescue Me

Maybe I need cowboys after all
Like the ones in movies, who wear white hats
Strong and courageous – to catch me when I fall
Maybe I need cowboys after all
Someone to rescue me from politics and wordy brawl
And disappearing habitats
Maybe I need cowboys after all
Like the ones in movies, who wear white hats

A Lover Leaps

Welcome 2018!
D’Verse Poets Pub Quadrille #47 – leap

~

A Lover Leaps

My heart said,
“Go ahead, take a leap.”
But my brain said,
“No, no, no – you might
Get hurt.”
You smiled
A tender smile
Your blue eyes sparkled
With joy
My heart took a deep breath
My brain closed it’s eyes
I leapt

Early Morning Snapshot

Early Morning Snapshot

There was just a slight film
Of ice on the birdbath
Evidence of exposure to
A cold snap overnight
From the fog covered window
of my dark room I wipe a
small aperture from which
to view the depth of the field
beyond the fence
as I watch a cardinal bursts from
the bare branches of an
old oak tree in a flash of red

Wishing On A Star

Saturday Mix – Lucky Dip, 16 December 2017
Write a Holiday Pantoum

Wishing On A Star

Fir tree is decorated with a star
Green branches laden with glowing tinsel
Cookies are on a special plate
Now we are waiting for Santa

Green branches laden with glowing tinsel
No shiny packages yet to be found
Now we are waiting for Santa
Hoping our wishes will come true

No shiny packages yet to be found
Cookies are on a special plate
Hoping our wishes will come true
Fir tree is decorated with a star

You Fill Me Up

I Once Used an Earthquake–dVerse MTB: Symbolism
Victoria is tending bar today at the Pub

You Fill Me Up

the refrigerator stood alone
in the kitchen
bright and shiny on the outside
almost empty on the inside
everyday it gave and gave
never questioning or complaining
always in the middle of gatherings
and parties but somehow feeling
left out, overlooked
then he came with bags
of love and hope
and it felt full again

An Inconvenience

Paul is talking Change over at the Pub

An Inconvenience

A neighbor cut down
an old Black Walnut tree
it was inconvenient –
dropping walnuts in the fall
as walnut trees are wont to do

And then another cut down
a Red Maple
it was inconvenient –
shedding all those leaves in the fall
as maple trees are inclined to do

Yet one more is contemplating
three tall pines behind his house
they are inconvenient –
scattering pine cones in the fall
as pine trees must surely do

Now the birds and squirrels
search out another perch
it is inconvenient –
finding seeds and nuts elsewhere
I think that I will plant a tree
