50s nonconformist

I didn’t know it but
she was ahead of her time
the other mothers
baked and cleaned
she gave her time
to help the poor
the other mothers
played cards and sewed
she read books and played piano
My mother didn’t
conform to her peers
She taught me well

Day 8 in the Garden is all about those women who influenced the world with their courage and bravery, the suffragettes, or the women who influenced us.

  1. In her quiet way, she was a revolutionary – at the very least, she was EVOlutionary. I love that she read and played piano instead of sewing. A wonderful example. She is so lovely in her photo. So fresh and peaceful. I suspect your grandmother was quite a woman as well, having raised such a daughter, able to make her own quiet choices.
