Trailing Memories

there was a tear in her

coat pocket and

nickles

and

quarters

and

keys

fell out leaving a trail of

lost items behind

she wondered if there

might be a similar tear

in her brain trailing

names

and

dates

and

recent

memories

the pocket could be

patched but she wasn’t

so sure

about

the

brain

  1. Oh my God.. emotions fully experienced are the
glue of loving.. crying .. fearful.. and all
    memories in between.. to lose
    emotion is same as heart..
    or expressing that as spirit..
    and without heart and spirit
    expressing now the soul
    dies a lonely
    death as
    life..
    HOPE
    IS EMOTION
    AND POSSIBLE
    AGAIN.. AS WELL..:)

  2. Having a few close friends whose mothers went very rapidly downhill with dementia (it seemed to get worse day by day), this is particularly moving. I like the way you have one word per line, to mimic the dropping of things out of the bag and out of the mind, along the way…

  4. The way you have written this….the tone, the connection made….is just done with such an ease and such a natural voice that it’s really beautiful and intelligent.
