Fragmented

I stole a fragment of

the sea

the insistent surf withdrew

from my grasp

and left me empty

I cut a fragment of

earth’s clay

my knife bent and broke

and left me hardened

I ripped a fragment of

your heart

to keep it close

it turned to stone and I

was left

alone
