All Jazzed Up

this poem is all jazzed up
hair slicked back
one cool cat, man

a take the (A) train
smoke-gets-in-your
eyes torch song
kinda poem

the heart of this poem
is laying down
a hope-you-dig-me
crazy beat

noodling a jive tune
to tell you –
before you split –

you send me

A Just Plain Poem

2017 November PAD Chapbook Challenge: Day 23
Write a ‘preface’ poem

~

A Just Plain Poem

this poem has no prelude
no coming attractions
no preface

there is no poem trailer
to build suspense
no liner notes

this poem is a bold
and daring
in-your-face poem

a laugh-out-loud
cry-me-a-river
mess of a poem

a heart of stone
filled with marshmallow
softy of a poem

a tell-you-a-story
tuck-you-in-bed
sweet dreams kind of poem

this poem is a kiss-
on-the-lips
heart-on-its-sleeve

just plain
in love with you
poem

abundandtly clear

2017 November PAD Chapbook Challenge: Day 19
Write an ‘abundance’ poem

let’s make it abundantly clear ….

this poem is not endowed
with an abundance of
grace

it sometimes trips
over its own unrhymed
feet

it often speak its mind
and ends up bold faced –
underlined
italicized

this poem gets lost
and scared
and sheds tears in
public

but this poem is honest
and true
it is in love with the moon
and stars and
you

What I Meant

2017 November PAD Chapbook Challenge: Day 17
Write a ‘what I meant to say’ poem

I wrote two.

~~
Wait!

I him-hawed and stuttered
blushed and teared up a little
whispered and coughed
as you turned around and
stomped away
I meant to say
“Come back.”

Just a Whisper

this poem never meant to say
“I love you”
or even
“I really like you” or
“call me”

but the moonlight had
smoothed out all
it’s rough edges

and the heart of this poem
began beating a beat
it had never beat before

it looked in your trusting eyes
finding the soul of a mate

and this poem whispered
“I love you”

bet you never expected …

Expect the Unexpected –
from Poems of Garden Gnomes

I’m way behind on this prompt -*blush*

—-

bet you never expected …

this better-late-than-never poem
this hit-the-snooze-button-
once-too-often poem
this poem with really good intentions
but poor follow through
this bowed-head-
bouquet-of-roses-
seeking-forgiveness poem
this hope-it’s-not-too-late-
to-play poem
standing here, blushing

Strange Enough

2017 November PAD Chapbook Challenge: Day 15
Write a “ Strange (blank) poem

~

Strange Enough

this poem is a little strang(er)
than most
sitting in a corner
scribbling
nibbling
on the nub of a pencil

talking to itself
laughing
sighing
crying

rolling itself up
into a ball
real small
until it disappears

Write or Flight

2017 November PAD Chapbook Challenge: Day 14
It’s Two-For-Tuesday again.
write a sonnet or another traditional form – or not

~

Write or Flight

this poem is in hiding
until its fear of
con-form(ing)
passes

it is considering
hermit-hood
peaking through a
gap in the curtains

waiting for this
form(ula) of cadence
to march away
leaving it in rhyme-less peace

Going Nowhere

2017 November PAD Chapbook Challenge: Day 10
Write a ‘going somewhere’ poem

~~
Going Nowhere

this poem is going nowhere
no way
no how

it is a stay-at-home
kind of poem
a curl up in its jammies
with a good book
kind of poem

its a quilt together warm
words kind of poem
a popcorn and hot chocolate
kind of poem

a hibernate until spring
kind of poem
