Once Upon a Sunbeam
fluffy dust motes floating by
i closed my eyes to wonder why
i do not see them in the night
although i try with all my might
where do they go when sun goes down
to rest somewhere or into town
they bounce and float on sunny days
then disappear when days turn gray
i’ll set a trap, that’s what i’ll do
put on a glove covered with glue
but they’re more clever than i thought
a bunch of cat fur’s all i caught

Canada geese fly
united
by instinct
divided only when one
leaves the formation

Imagine That
This summer Robert Lee Brewer had introduced the poetic form Decina on his Poetic Asides blog. Then in Aug, he issued a challenge. This one got third place. Toot!
On summer days I climb a tree
I sit on branches high and wide
Pretend that I could take a ride
upon a ship that sails the sea
Or maybe I would like to be
An astronaut in outer space
Talk to a moon man face-to-face
And then my branch becomes a mare
Go galloping without a care
Til mother calls me to home base

Vacation
Vacation
We quibbled over vanilla or chocolate
Frozen custard or hand churned
Strolled on the boardwalk
Bought matching T-shirts we’ll never wear
Ate hot dogs with everything
Sipped Slurpees that turned our tongues blue
No cares, no worries, no hurry
Until the sun slipped below the horizon
And the sky put on its pink nighty
We glanced at each other, eye to eye
And our hearts winked
You wrenched the oars of our canoe
From their locks and paddled like a robot
Back to the secluded cabin on the lake
Vacation nirvana
