It’s been fun collaborating with Mish from mishunderstood and we hope you have been enjoying our Sunday posts. So far Mish has been providing the pictures and I have been inspired to write.

Mish and I have been working on a project we would like to call “Collaboration for Peace”. Here is our second creation, combining her photos with my haiku. We hope to spread peace and hope throughout this community of poets.

shore birds gather
along the beach like children
collecting treasures

There’s not much new
between midnight and
midnight:01
except in that second
we’ve gained another year
flipped the calendar page
kissed someone we love
(or like a lot)
made promises to
ourselves about the
improvements we’ll
be seeing in the coming months
shared a toast, raised
a glass
danced and hugged
cheered with the crowd
and felt the stirrings
of hopefulness tingling
down our spines.

their branches upward to point
the way to heaven

Carpe Diem Seven Days Before Christmas #5 “peace”
my peace is not your peace
for my struggle is not yours
what vexes me you dismiss
with ease and your anxieties
bring me no anguish
your prayers are not my prayers
our snares are not the same
but our needs are not so different
a safe home
food and clean water
a feeling of usefulness
respect
surely then, peace will find us
