Bird Song

When evening tip-toes in

To calm the industry of day

When light begins to dim and wind

Becomes a gentle breath

These are the moments birds whisper

Songs to me, filling my dreams

With the hope of their voices

A Bold Poem

This poem will not be marginalized

Pushed aside by lions with violins

Cats playing bagpipes or rabbits with knives

It will not become some colored squiggle

Along the edges of a page

This poem is BOLD and brave

Its words SHOUT and wave for attention

For a proper introduction, adulation

Each sentence marches across the page

Following the one before, confidently,

From corner to corner, leaving no room for

Naves and scoundrels

Tendril Mercies

“Roots” by Frida Kahlo

I was alone
abandoned
rejected
My world was
cracked
barren
I cried salty tears
of despair
praying for
absolution
redemption
And they watered
the hope which
was buried
almost dead
Slowly tendrils
of mercy
embraced me
and love returned
