Casting Nets

They tossed their empty nets
into the deep unknown
expecting them to
fill with treasure – the kind that
would make them rich, or famous,
or a genius and when they hauled
them in they found nothing but
tarnished trinkets that added nothing
to their lives
I filled my net with love and tossed
it into the murky waters of despair
and when I tugged it back to me
found it was filled with peace

Saturday Mix – Same Same But Different, 7 October 2017
Welcome to the Saturday Mix, 7 October 2017!

This week we are diving into the depths of our thesaurus and exploring the world of synonyms.

Same Same But Different
Your ‘Same Same But Different’ task is to take the five challenge words and NOT use them in your writing. That’s right, you need to dig out your thesaurus and find a synonym for each word instead.

Your words are:

lucky
walk
old
dry
cook

Perspective

I am the fortunate one
strolling through rows
of ancient tombstones
some covered with moss
some with worn script that
can no longer be deciphered
air so arid that the grass crackles
under my feet, brown scorched
patches scar the green
swath of lawn – I thirst for
cooling shade, for a breeze to stir
the stale air around me but
strolling through the rows
I know I am the fortunate one

My Tall Lamp

Poems of Garden Gnomes – THAT AIN’T RIGHT!
What is just out of reach of your left hand? – it is the stuff of poems (written by garden gnomes)

My Tall Lamp

it does not care who
needs its glow or why
it shines its 60 watts
for anyone who asks
and does not judge or
criticize it spreads its
incandescent warmth
on my blank page
chasing shadows from
my thoughts and erasing
the darkness from a
moonless night

Poetic Asides – Wednesday Poetry Prompts: 413 – a recognition poem

~

this poem ….

would like to recognize
the lined paper and pink-ink pen
that made my appearance possible
without their support I would
be just random thoughts escaping
into the atmosphere
they pushed and prodded my
words into being
arranged them and rearranged
them until they were ready
to shine a light in the darkness
to offer hope to the hopeless
to make a wish for peace for
all who read ….
