I used to think luxury
was long bubble baths
with candles and music
but after children I know
that luxury is a two hour
nap time
I used to think luxury
was champagne and caviar
but after children I know
that luxury is no spilled milk
at dinner
I used to think luxury
was an elegant silk suit
but after children I know
that luxury is khaki pants
without stains
I used to think luxury
was a stroll in the moonlight
but after children I know
that luxury is shoes without mud
after a walk
I used to think luxury
was the peacefulness of silence
but after children I know
that luxury is the joyfulness of
children giggling
Great reminder of how our views change, after children…and the giggles make it all worthwhile!

thanks – there’s nothing like the giggles of children

Although a moment of silence instead of squabbling would be much appreciate…
This made me giggle – it has all the simplicity of children’s poetry (plus the repetition), and a droll little air about it – so very true!

Though I do not have children myself I have seen enough of it in friends as well.. and some of the aspects rings true also for growing up in general.. I really like this poem.. my new favorite from you.

Can laugh with even though none of my own. Can imagine the luxury of sleeping in turning to a luxury of sleeping a night through! I did that this morning – woke up at my usual early hour and even before I put the kettle on I turned back and slept another full two hours. Obviously needed it. Nice rhythm to the work.

My first comment seemed to have gotten lost. Poor thing … anyway – don’t, thankfully, have any kids of my own but could relate to your experience – I have a Very Demanding Cat who has been ill but will get better.

oh, hope your cat feels better soon. I have two, myself.
